Plumbing and Heating in London Supply and Demand

With the winter upon us, demand for London plumbers and heating engineers is naturally on the increase. It is inevitable in many ways because of a combination of factors which include rapidly dropping temperature (especially at night), re-starting of boilers and central heating systems that were virtually dormant for the summer and (mild) autumn.

Control your Shower

Say goodbye to the frustration of standing under the showerhead trying to adjust the water temperature and the water flow. A new remote controlled shower head ensures that when you enter the shower, the water is running at the right flow and the right temperature.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm

An audible carbon monoxide alarm installed recently has proven its value as it went off within days of being installed, alarming the resident of the toxic fumes coming from the faulty gas cooker, potentially saving a life.

Plumbers Vans Get Rack

A new range of storage racks for plumbers vans has been launched that provides efficient storage and fully utilise the available space. According to research, the average plumber wastes around half an hour a day searching for tools and parts. Plumbers use their van as a combination of workshop, storage space and an office, with equipment, tools and paperwork scattered around. When the plumber is under pressure to find a missing tool or a part, the pressure builds up and the stress levels are rising.

Underfloor Works with Carpets

A recent research has disproved a long standing myth that underfloor heating and carpets cannot be used together. Most underfloor heating installations are done with wooden floors or tiled floors. However the research conducted by Wavin Plastics , the Carpet Foundation, the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers’ Association (UHMA) and the Building Services Research & Information Association (BSRIA), has shown that underfloor heating can indeed work very effectively with carpeted setups.

More Women Plumbers Needed

The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers has around eleven thousand members, of which only around fifty are women. The group Women in Plumbing (WPG), was formed as part of the IPHE to support the network of women that work in the plumbing industry and for women that seek information on a career as a plumber. The group offers support and advice to women already in the industry and to those considering becoming plumbers as a career move. This also helps to raise awareness to the attractive opportunities for women within the plumbing and heating sector.

Boiler and Electricty is CHP

A recent study by the Carbon Trust has shown that a micro CHP system are well suited for larger existing homes or houses where it is not cost effective to improve the insulation.

Retro Boilers are Back

Biomass boilers are making a comeback and are rapidly winning hearts in the UK. Many plumbers and heating engineers have reported an increase in interest in biomass boilers which are considered carbon neutral.

Plumbers and Sanitary Ware

lumbers in the trade have noted that there is currently obvious confusion around whether sanitaryware should be marked by a CE mark. Currently CE marking is not compulsory in the UK. This, however, can change in the future following the revisions of the Construction Products Directive.

How Green is Central Heating?

As the drive to become greener is starting to put pressure on home owners and plumbers alike, the manufacturers of boilers and central heating systems are making an effort to provide ever improving boilers with higher efficiency.
